Rug Scotchgarding

You love the way your professionally cleaned Oriental or specialty area rug looks when you get it back, right? So…why wouldn’t you want to make that look to last as long as it can? By adding Scotchgard™ to your rug cleaning order you can preserve that fresh & clean look a lot longer. Ask your rug specialist about our professionally applied Scotchgard™ rug protection.

Scotchgard™ delivers its patented one-of-a-kind protection by forming a molecular shield or barrier around each and every rug fiber. This shield reduces the surface area of the rug fibers which causes them to repel liquid, dust and dirt. This also prevents dirt and stains from being ground into or absorbed by the fibers. 3M Scotchgard™ uses proprietary technology to give more repellency than any other carpet or rug protector formula on the market. It repels almost all liquids, which allows accidental spills to be removed rapidly before staining and/or wicking can occur. Dirt and stains love clinging to untreated rug fibers, which spread quickly and become embedded in the fibers. Our professional Scotchgard™ application keeps dirt from sticking to the fibers, which always makes rugs easier to care for. Scotchgard™ performs the best when professionally applied by your rug cleaner, which has all the right equipment. It is professionally and evenly applied by our spray applicator, dries quickly, and leaves absolutely no odor. Most importantly, it is non-toxic and safe to use around family and pets. It is also Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) and solvent-free.

3M recommends the application of Scotchgard™ after each cleaning on any rug fiber types. With a professional application of our Scotchgard™ rug protector, you will have the assurance that your rug is protected with a premium quality product. The next time you have your rugs professionally cleaned in the St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Largo area, be sure to ask us for the Scotchgard™ rug protector.

Rug Deodorizing

For many families, their pets are a vital part of their family unit. Just like other family members, we normally don’t get rid of them when they have “accidents.” And while pets can and do provide a variety of benefits within households, their “accidents” can also create challenges. The service we provide is to break down the urine elements in the textile and clean it out.

At times we have accidents that will occur on our fine area rugs such as water damage intrusion from a broken pipe, our beloved pets will have accidents or you simply want to take precaution against unwanted bacteria and germs that hide in your rug fibers.

When an area rug is exposed to extremely severe soiling conditions, it must usually be discarded. This is because the cost of restoration is invariably higher than the cost of replacement. However, if an area rug has exceptional emotional or intrinsic value, efforts to thoroughly clean and deodorize the piece might be worthwhile.

Utilizing the basic elements of air and water, we customize the cleaning process for the needs of each individual rug. With patented tools and equipment designed specifically for the cleaning of oriental rugs, we provide a thorough and effective, yet gentle, cleaning process that is powerfully soft. Depending on the particular fibers, dyes, soils, and construction of the rug, we’ll draw from a wide range of different cleaning techniques.

Rug Moth-Proofing

Wool moths, carpet beetles, crickets, and silverfish can all cause extensive damage to your oriental rugs. Typically they will impact areas that are dark and out of sight, so check your rugs under couches and furniture for signs of insects, eggs, or larvae. If you see any signs of infestation, or want to prevent future damage, call us for rug mothproofing. We treat rugs with a mix of chemicals that renders the wool inedible to wool moth larvae, and typically deters other insects as well. The chemical we use for moth-proofing is not an insecticide, and is not poisonous. It’s designed for natural dyed oriental rugs, and will last until the next cleaning.

Rug Pet Stain Removal

Understanding Urine Damage:

Pet urine can cause permanent damage to your floors and rugs. Pet odor can also create an unhealthy indoor environment. When urine is first deposited onto a carpet or rug, it has a pH of 5 or 6, which is on the acid side of the pH scale.

It is easier to remove at this point, when it is fresh. Once it dries it becomes alkaline, reaching a pH of 10 to 12. At this point it is more difficult to remove. The warm acid state of the urine offers a perfect breeding ground for bacteria, which begin to grow immediately.

Two Problems:

Stain -In the original acid state, the urine begins to oxidize and react with the carpet to create a color change, also known as urine stain. As time passes, the pet stain will become increasingly more difficult to remove, depending upon the carpet. The dye structure of the carpet may sustain permanent damage. Bear in mind that over-the-counter products (i.e. Resolve, Oxyclean, etc.) may set the stain. We recommend none of these.

The primary source of odor associated with urine comes from bacteria that grow abundantly in dark and warm places with a never ending food source. This bacteria growth and breakdown of the urine creates amino acids. These complex organic compounds will often work deep into the fibers until they actually become part of the fibers. At this point the odors are very difficult to remove. The waste materials and gases from the decomposing urine create an unpleasant odor. When dried urine is remoistened it gives off an ammonia gas which is extremely unpleasant. Urine odor, if it has become dormant, will sometimes “come alive” on days of high humidity. The salts and crystals that are left behind as the urine dries are hydrophilic and draw water to them. Dried urine “comes alive” during humid months because the salts are attracting moisture, and when the moisture evaporates the ammonia gas is released to the air. This is why cleaning existing urine stains may not completely remove any associated odor. In fact, it could increase the odor in the environment temporarily.

Rug Pet Stain and Odor Removal – Things you should know Before Cleaning Your Expensive Rug.

A rug can have many different types of stains, structural damages, and color run. For every type of problem there is a unique approach and intervention.

Pet stains are very common and can cause permanent damage to the rug and a serious health hazard. Unfortunately, urine deposited on fibers of the rug does not stay there. It penetrates the fibers and contaminates the flooring material below the rug. Urine odors will also permeate to the floor; be it stone or wood. As the urine dries, the liquid evaporates but the urine crystals, which consist of bacteria, urochrome, uric acid, urea, proteins, hormones, and other ingredients, become even concentrated and pungent. Simple cleaning will not remove this odor. Commonly used disinfectants and perfumes will not remove the odor.

Here are some warnings when you are looking to get your rug cleaned for pet stain and odor removal:

Pet urine needs to be properly released and removed. A simple wash will not get rid of pet stain and, the urine crystals will continue to cause structural damages to your rug.

Commonly used over powering perfumes and/or skunk perfume is a sign of improper wash and the problem continues to exist. Pet odors will completely disappear when the pet urine is properly released and removed.
